I first heard about Oh My Cake! when they contacted us & offered to make a cake for the Rare Bear Project‘s second birthday.  I was really impressed by this contact as they are a relatively small business, yet they still wanted to find a way to be able to give back to the community.  The ladies were SO excited when we told them we were bringing them cake, & when we finally got to sample it, I think we all just melted.  It was beyond amazing & delicious, & we were literally licking the platter that the cake came on.

So when it came time to do my 30th Cake Smash, I knew that I was going to go straight to them.  I didn’t know exactly what I wanted, but then they told me that they always have ready-to-buy cakes & you can just phone them in the morning so they can whatsapp you pics of what they have available on that day.  Say whaaaaaat?!

On the day of my shoot I went in to the shop & was immediately drawn to the “Love Bug” chocolate cake – & these pics show you just why!

After we were done shooting, laughing & generally having the best afternoon ever with the ladies from Through The Lens Photography, we sat down together to enjoy some cake & tea together.  Well, let me tell you, this cake tasted even better than it looks!  It was not too sweet, but literally melted in my mouth.  And the macaroons on the side?  Om nom nom nom.  I haven’t tasted such a delicious cake in such a long time & took it home for husband to take in to his office for the ladies there.  It easily fed about 12 of us – although I am sure we could have found room for more if we had been pushed (I am sure women have a dessert stomach too!).  I contacted the ladies who work there to find out a bit more.

Your names: Naseeha Hassen & Camilla HysonCam & Nas
Some interesting/fun facts about you: Naseeha loves weightlifting & Camilla is a pottery enthusiast.
When did you start: 2014
What did you do before this: I (Naseeha) was pursuing an academic career in Human Medical Genetics, & had just completed my Masters Degree. Camilla was working in corporate marketing.
How/why did it start: Cake decorating started as a hobby, to relieve stress. For Camilla, it was mastering the art of macarons. Both of us found our passion in creating edible art, & decided to leave our careers. Camilla & I met at a market in 2015, as competitors trading side-by-side. Over time, we slowly began to collaborate at events, & in 2016, we took the plunge & opened our first store together. Within a year, our team had grown & our little space was becoming too small for us, so we opened the doors of our brand new store in Cedar Square, in September 2017.

What do you love most about having your own business: We love inspiring our team & watching them grow & develop their skills.
What have been some of your biggest battles with running your own business: The exhaustion can sometimes be completely overwhelming! As the business owner, you never really have a day off – your mind is always on the team, the customer, the product, the brand, the finances, the next steps for growth…it never switches off!
What is your main objective for your business: To grow a strong brand with an inspired team & consistently awesome products, that look like art & taste like dessert.

Oh My Cake! also sells their wares at the Linden Market, so if you are there make sure you have a go at their scrummy offerings!  And just to tempt your tastebuds, here is a bit more about what they have:

PS  You can also organise delivery through UberEATS if you aren’t able to get to their shop yourself – ie no excuses not to try something.
